With just over four months left before the November election, Republicans have been raising the alarm about illegal aliens being given voter registration forms in 49 states.

According to the New York Post, welfare offices and various state agencies have been providing voter registration forms to illegals without asking about their citizenship status. These forms are often delivered to illegals who have applied for various welfare benefits, as well as driver’s licenses. These benefits are available to illegals who either have refugee status, asylum status, or humanitarian parole. After the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) was passed in 1993, states were required by law to register voters at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and other agencies where people can apply for benefits; voter registration forms are to be given to the applicants alongside the welfare application forms.

Although it is illegal for a non-citizen to cast a vote in a federal election, or to claim that they are a legal citizen, there is still no requirement to provide proof of citizenship on voting forms. As such, a welfare applicant can simply claim to be an American citizen when applying for benefits, and they must be given a voter registration form without question.

The only state which does not provide voter registration forms to welfare applicants is Arizona, after the state passed a law forbidding this practice; however, this only applies to voting in state elections, not federal elections such as the presidency or Congress.

Republicans in Congress have been working to introduce legislation that would combat this practice, with the House Administration Committee approving the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) ACT last month; the bill would require states to first be given proof of citizenship before one can be allowed to register to vote.

“While Biden and radical progressive Democrats give ISIS and criminals an app to literally schedule their illegal entry, Republicans must fight any chance of illegal voter registration until we can mass deport,” said Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas), who introduced the bill.

“As President Biden has welcomed millions of illegal aliens through our borders, including sophisticated criminal syndicates and foreign adversaries, it is incumbent upon Congress to implement greater enforcement measures that secure the voter registration process and ensure only American citizens decide the outcome of American elections,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said in a statement.

The potential for illegal aliens to vote has raised new concerns about election integrity and voter fraud ahead of the 2024 election. There has already been widespread distrust in the election system following the 2020 election, during which numerous COVID-era regulations – including ballot-harvesting and ballot drop-boxes – were unilaterally implemented by governors and secretaries of state, leading many to believe that the results were ultimately rigged against President Donald Trump and in favor of Democrat Joe Biden.
