On Wednesday, Republicans in the House Committee on Homeland Security set a date the following week for impeachment hearings regarding Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

As reported by the New York Post, the first hearing will be on January 10th, and will focus on Mayorkas’ “failed leadership and his refusal to enforce” border security and immigration law, amidst a historic surge of third-world illegal aliens flooding into the country on his watch.

“For almost three years, the American people have demanded an end to the unprecedented crisis at the Southwest border, and they have also rightly called for Congress to hold accountable those responsible,” said committee Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) in a statement announcing the move.

“Our investigation made clear that this crisis finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress, and that his failure to fulfill his oath of office demands accountability,” Green added.

While the House GOP is currently focusing on an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden, there have been calls for additional impeachments against several of his Cabinet members, including Mayorkas. In November, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) introduced a resolution to impeach Mayorkas. It was defeated when eight Republicans voted with 201 Democrats to refer the resolution to the committee, effectively tabling it.

Greene posted on Wednesday that although “some Republicans joined every single Democrat to block the resolution and save Mayorkas’s job,” she was “happy to report that the first official impeachment hearing for Secretary Mayorkas will be taking place.”

Mayorkas blasted the Republican majority and continued to blame the border crisis on Republicans, but nevertheless vowed to cooperate with Congress.

“This administration is focused on solutions to problems,” said Mayorkas in an interview on MSNBC.

“The House majority is wasting valuable time and taxpayer dollars pursuing a baseless political exercise that has been rejected by members of both parties and already failed on a bipartisan vote,” said DHS spokeswoman Mia Ehrenberg. “There is no valid basis to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, as senior members of the House majority have attested, and this extreme impeachment push is a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities.”

The mass migration crisis has led to numerous other unprecedented disasters for the United States, ranging from health concerns due to illegals’ spreading their sicknesses, to rising crime and homelessness, as well as demographic displacement of native-born American citizens. Ever since Biden took power, Mayorkas’ DHS has completely ignored basic immigration law and has allowed the border to remain open for all illegals; federal border agents have even actively assisted illegals in crossing the border, leading to numerous legal clashes with the state of Texas as state authorities try to secure the border in their own way.

In fiscal year 2023, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported roughly 2.47 million encounters with illegals on the southern border.
