

Armed gunmen opened fire at the victory rally for Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday, reportedly striking up to 15 people, including children. The shooting “took place west of Union Station, near the garage, as Chiefs fans were leaving,” KMBC reported.
At least two armed suspects have been detained amid what the Kansas City Fire Department called a “fluid situation.”
Schools in the Kansas City area were closed Wednesday so families could attend the parade and celebrate their hometown heroes after their Super Bowl victory. Approximately 1 million paradegoers and 600 law enforcement officials were expected at the celebration.
According to KMBC, emergency crews were arriving at Union Station where injured people were being worked on.
KMBC’s Matt Flener reports that five people are being brought to Truman Medical Center. He reports that three ambulances were seen going into the Children’s Mercy Hospital’s emergency room.
An official with HCA in charge of coordinating emergency triage in Kansas City told KMBC radio that she knew of 15 victims so far, some children.
The NFL Network’s James Palmer captured the chaos that ensued after the shots rang out.

“We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims,” police said. “Many of you have footage of many officers securing union station, they are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside union station and expedite care of those injured.”
