NextImg:Google Admits to Censoring Speech Under Pressure from Biden Administration

A document provided to the House Judiciary Committee is providing proof that tech giant Google engaged in censorship at the urging of the Biden administration during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), YouTube, which operates as a subsidiary of Google, changed its policies under the Biden-Harris administration to censor political debate on Covid and elections.

The tech giant, which also is known by its parent company Alphabet, has offered to reinstate creators who were previously kicked off YouTube over for violating its internal policies over perceived misinformation.

A letter from a lawyer for Google acknowledges that, “Senior Biden Administration officials, including White House officials, conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet and pressed the Company regarding certain user-generated content related to the COVID-19 pandemic that did not violate its policies.”

The letter goes on to state: “Reflecting the Company’s commitment to free expression, YouTube will provide an opportunity for all creators to rejoin the platform if the company terminated their channels for repeated violations of COVID-19 and elections integrity policies that are no longer in effect.”

In a post on X, Rep. Jordan explained that YouTube now admits that Biden administration pressure to censor Americans for speech that did not violate its policies was “unacceptable and wrong.”

The letter also details when YouTube began rolling back its censorship policies on political speech, after the House Judiciary Committee began its investigation and promises to never use third-party “fact-checkers” moving forward.

Google is following the lead of Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, which admitted last year that the Biden administration pressured Facebook to censor Americans and throttled the Hunter Biden laptop story.

Jordan also reports that YouTube has confirmed that Europe is targeting American speech and innovation with social-media laws that place a “disproportionate regulatory burden on American companies.”

The House Judiciary Committee Chairman called the disclosures by Google “massive wins for the American people, the First Amendment, and freedom,” and vowed, “We won’t stop fighting to protect free speech.”
