Five soldiers were reportedly shot by a fellow soldier at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia Wednesday morning in an active shooter incident.

According to the U.S. Army, law enforcement was dispatched for a possible shooting in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) area at 10:56 a.m. The gunman, reportedly a male soldier, was apprehended at 11:35 a.m.

Emergency medical personnel were reportedly dispatched to treat the wounded soldiers at 11:09 a.m. Thus far, no fatalities have been reported.

“All Soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment,” the Army said in a statement posted on X at 12:55 p.m. “There is no active threat to the community.

Fort Stewart was locked down at 11:04 a.m. with the lockdown of the main cantonment area lifted at 12:10 p.m.  The Army’s X account reported that the 2nd ABCT complex was still locked down at the time of its posting.

In a Facebook post at 11:12 a.m., Fort Stewart reported: “The Commander has issued a Lock Down in the 2ABCT area in place order for Fort Stewart including Wright and Evans Army Airfield. Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership. For information updates monitor social media outlets.”

Little information about the shooter has yet been released.

“The incident remains under investigation and no additional information will be released until the investigation is complete,” the Army stated.

In a post on X, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, and the White House is “monitoring the situation.”

According to 4WWL, the Wright Army Airfield, about three miles away,  was also locked down during the shooting, along with three schools in Liberty County.

Fort Stewart is located about an hour southwest of Savannah and is home to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division. Thousands of soldiers and their family members are assigned to the base, which according to the Associated Press is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River.

FBI Atlanta posted on X that it was “aware of the incident” and was “coordinating with Army Criminal Investigation Division for any assistance that might be needed.”

Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement on X as well:

“As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Ft. Stewart,” Kemp posted on X. “We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.”
