Among the options that President-elect Trump is weighing regarding his promises to secure the border and begin the “largest deportation in U.S. history” is a proposed ban on mortgages for illegal immigrants.
Speaking in Tucson, Arizona back in September, Trump voiced his opposition to Democrat plans to give mortgages to illegal aliens and instead promised to ban such mortgages to not only stem the flow of illegals into the U.S. but also to help restore housing affordability for those who have a legal right to be here.
Trump had earlier that week told the Economic Club of New York that, “We cannot ignore the impact that the flood of 21 million illegal aliens has had on driving up housing costs.”
The ban on mortgages for illegals could have impact on two Durham, North Carolina credit unions which have helped illegal aliens obtain mortgages in that state.
According to the Durham Reporter, Self-Help Credit Union (SHCU) and Latino Community Credit Union (LCCU) have both helped illegals obtain mortgages by issuing home loan to holders of Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs) which are given to illegal aliens.
Both credit unions have received healthy government subsidies with SHCU receiving over $502 million in federal funding and the tax-exempt 501(c)(14) LCCU receiving more than $11 million in taxpayer-funded grants in the past decade.
North Carolina’s former Attorney General and now governor-elect Josh Stein worked for SHCU, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest and lack of transparency on the credit union’s lending practices.
In a June poll by American Greatness, 9 in 10 North Carolina voters said they believe immigration does not make their quality of life better.
Trump’s proposed ban on mortgages for illegals is only one suggested benefit that immigration reformers are recommending be curtailed to discourage illegal border crossing.
Dr. Peter St. Onge says mass deportations are coming, starting with the criminals allowed in under the current administration but mass self deportations will follow when the freebies stop and immigration laws are being enforced.
When a bird feeder is put up, it’s a safe bet that birds will be drawn to it.
By that same token, when that feeder is removed, the birds will stop coming.
There’s a similar principle at play here with removing the incentives that entice people to cross the border illegally.
