NextImg:Border Czar Tom Homan: Suspects in Texas ICE Facility Shooting That Wounded Officer Appear to Be ‘Typical’ Agitators

Armed Left-wing agitators appear to have escalated their violence against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol facilities in Texas, according to Border Czar Tom Homan.

A gunman armed with tactical gear and a rifle reportedly opened fire upon Border Patrol agents at the entrance of a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas,  Monday morning,  injuring two police officers and a Border Patrol employee.

Agents and local police returned fire and killed the gunman, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda of Michigan.

Authorities said the attack was a purposeful ambush targeting Border Patrol agents.

“This morning an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement Monday. “Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured, including one shot in the knee. All three have gone to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI.”

The ambush came on the same day that Axios reported left-wing activists are becoming increasingly militant in their opposition to President Trump’s policies and are urging fellow travelers to “prepare for violence” and “be willing to get shot” while protesting immigration facilities.

White House Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller cut to the chase in a post on X.

“Democrats inspiring domestic terrorism against ICE,” Miller wrote.

On the fourth of July, another Texas police officer was shot in front of the Prairieland ICE Detention Facility in Alvarado, Texas.

The Alvarado Police officer was reportedly wounded in the neck at around 11 p.m. Friday night while responding to reports of a suspicious person. When the officer tried making contact with the individual, shots rang out and the officer was hit.

He was flown to a Fort Worth hospital for treatment and was later released.

A federal law enforcement source told CBS News that the police arrested eight people, some of whom were dressed in black like antifa and wearing body armor.

According to the source,  “more than a dozen masked individuals dressed in black arrived at the Prairieland ICE detention facility late Friday night and vandalized vehicles and security cameras in the parking lot.”

The agitators launched fireworks in an effort to lure law enforcement, the source said. Those individuals have not yet been named.

Border Czar Tom Homan told Fox news Monday that the suspects appear to be “typical protesters that go from protesters to criminals.”

Attacks on ICE officers, he said, are up 700 percent, up from 500 percent just two weeks ago.

Homan said the suspects in the 4th of July attack “appear to be agitators—people who were protesting ICE operations, damaging ICE property, want to attack ICE officers.”

Left-wing demonstrators also clashed with federal officers at the Portland ICE facility Friday, with hundreds of agitators attempting to storm holding cells.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Chief Michael W. Banks told Fox News Monday that he has had to pull agents off of their regular duties to harden their security at their facilities “to make sure we’re on a heightened state of alert.”

Banks said that the left-wing agitators are not only putting law enforcement in danger, they’re putting civilians in danger too by encouraging these sorts of attacks.

“They’re going up against highly trained law enforcement officers and they’re going to find themselves in the same situation that this gentleman [Mosqueda] found himself in this morning,” the chief added.

The White House on Monday urged Democrats to tone down their dangerous rhetoric.

“We certainly call on Democrats to tone down their rhetoric against ICE and Border Patrol agents,” said White house Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Monday, pointing out that the agents are “every day men and women.”

Leavitt encouraged vocal ant-ICE lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to actually meet and get to know agents who are “honorable Americans” who are just trying  to enforce the immigration law.

“The rhetoric against the men and women of ice is skyrocketing—especially by members of Congress,” Homan told Fox News.

“We have senators, we have Congress people that compare ICE to the Nazis, compare ICE to racists,” he said.  “And it just continues so a member of the public says if Congress can attack ICE then why can’t we?”

Homan said that as long as Democrats and their media allies keep pushing out anti-ICE propaganda, things could “get ugly.”

“I just hope the rhetoric stops because we’re talking about life and death here. These men and women of ICE, the men and women of Border Patrol—they’re mothers and fathers too,” the Border Czar added. “They don’t hang their heart on a hook when they go to work. They’re enforcing laws enacted by Congress. If you don’t like it, go protest Congress.”

Update:

Kyle Shideler, Director for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism at the Center For Security Policy, commented Tuesday that antifa’s escalation from political agitation to extreme criminal violence was foreseeable.

“For several years we have warned that Antifa cells were moving from mass movement protest tactics to small cell violent direct action, including firebombing police cars, pregnancy resource centers, and Tesla dealerships, and now attempted murder of police,” Shideler posted on X.

These warnings aligned with the historic practice of the New Left communist urban guerrillas from which Antifa is a direct linear descendant, as we proved in testimony submitted to the U.S. Senate.

This was also the conclusion of the German ministry of interior as early as 2020, which my colleague Michael Waller was first to report, making available in English translation intelligence reports on the growing threat of Antifa violence.

We’ve provided this information to hundreds of local, and state agencies as part of our law enforcement program. Antifa remains our most requested briefing subject because, officers tell us they just can’t get the info anywhere else.

We have also consulted with state legislators on anti-terror and anti-rioting legislation which has passed in multiple states, and which directly counter and criminalize Antifa tactics.

Warning has been provided, and off the shelf and easily customizable legislative solutions are available. Now action has to be taken.
