NextImg:Bernie Sanders Thanks Performer Who Sang Song Attacking Christianity at Pre-election Rally

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is getting pushback from Republicans and Democrats alike after he thanked a crossdressing singer for performing a vulgar song attacking Christianity at an anti-Trump rally in Wisconsin.

Sanders was speaking in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Friday at a pre-election rally where he was preceded on stage by Thomas James Gabel who pretends to be a female singer who goes by the name of “Laura Jane Grace.”

The rally was part of Sander’s “Fighting Oligarchy” tour and took place just weeks before Wisconsin voters head to the polls to elect a new justice to the state’s Supreme Court.

Gabel’s musical performance included a song mocking God, Jesus, Christianity and Easter Sunday with sexually explicit lyrics. (NB: Language warning)

According to the Kenosha Reporter, Gabel is the lead singer of the punk rock band “Against Me” and the author of the 2016 book “Tranny: Confessions Of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout.”

Gabel had previously performed at a fundraiser for Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign.

Conservative social media activist Robby Starbuck condemned the singer’s performance, saying in a post on X, “This is who the Democrats are now. Pure Evil.”

But Conservatives aren’t the only ones questioning the wisdom of Sanders inviting Gable to perform and then thanking the singer following his religious mockery.

The New York Post published a comment from a self-proclaimed Democrat who said, “I spent much of my life as a moderate Dem. It’s hard to express how ashamed and disappointed I am in these people now. What has happened these last few years may not ever be undone. Inexcusable.”

The election for the next justice for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court pits liberal Dane County Circuit Court judge Susan Crawford, against former Republican Attorney General and current Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Brad Schimel.

Friday night’s rally drew about 3,500 people who came to hear Sanders speak.
