Anti-ICE agitators swarmed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois, Friday morning, chanting “shoot the f-ckers.”
About 100 agitators in all gathered outside the processing facility this morning to disrupt ICE operations. According to WGN, “things remained calm until around 7:30 a.m., when agents pulled onto a road that was being blocked by the group.”
Rioters proceeded to block and pound on ICE vehicles as they entered and exited the facility.
Federal agents in riot gear fired pepper balls and tear gas to disperse the mob. The agitators retreated after the crowd control munitions were fired, WGN reported.
Agents also fired pepper balls at the protestors who had positioned themselves at another one of the facility’s entrances. It was the same entrance where several protests have taken place in recent days, but protestors are now gathering at both entrances.
Multiple rioters were tackled to the ground and arrested at the scene.
The riot in Broadview came just two days after an anti-ICE agitator in Dallas, Texas shot at an ICE vehicle, killing one detainee and injuring two others.
ICE’s “Operation Midway Blitz” has resulted in over 200 arrests targeting individuals with criminal histories in the Chicago area.
Anti-ICE activists have been demonstrating at the facility every Friday morning since Operation Midway Blitz began earlier this month, in an attempt to shut down the facility.
In addition to blocking and assaulting their vehicles, ICE officials say the agitators have thrown rocks at them, set off fireworks, and slashed their tires.
Earlier this week in Broadview, agitators were caught on video slashing the tires of an ICE vehicle.
