NextImg:Actor Ben Affleck and Son Stranded After Electric Truck Dies

On Saturday, actor Ben Affleck and his son were stranded on a Los Angeles freeway after their electric truck shut down.

As reported by Breitbart, the actor and director was driving with his 12-year-old son Samuel when their Bronco died on the road. They were able to make it to a gas station nearby, where they waited for a tow truck to bring the electric vehicle (EV) back to their home.

The incident is just the latest in a long line of high-profile instances of EVs underperforming or shutting down sooner than expected. This comes as the state of California has pushed more aggressively for the implementation of EVs than any other state, trying to force auto manufacturers and consumers to embrace more EVs within the next decade.

Such mandates, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), ostensibly aim to reduce California’s rate of carbon emissions in order to reduce pollution and slow down the effects of so-called “global warming.” But the market has repeatedly rejected EVs, leaving them largely unbought as customers still overwhelmingly prefer normal, gas-powered vehicles.

Affleck is going through his own personal turmoil as his current wife, actress Jennifer Lopez, is preparing to file for divorce. Affleck had previously divorced his last wife, actress Jennifer Garner, the mother of Samuel. Despite this, Affleck has been seen in public and on vacation with Garner and all three of their children, suggesting that he remains cordial with his ex-wife and is still a part of his children’s lives.
