Hurricane Erin continues to move parallel to the East Coast on Wednesday morning and it is expected to bring a prolonged period of destructive surf and dangerous rip currents along the coastline.

Erin remains a category 2 hurricane with winds of 100 mph and is located about 495 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Erin is expected to intensify later on Wednesday and its wind field is expected to widen significantly, meaning the destructive surf conditions and dangerous rip currents along the shore should carry into the weekend.
